How meter affects the answer

At 120 BPM in 4/4, eight bars contain 32 quarter-note beats and last 16 seconds. Change the count to three beats per bar and the same eight bars last 12 seconds.

Compound meters need care because a DAW may display BPM against dotted-quarter beats while you count six or twelve eighth notes. Match “beats per bar” to the beat represented by your BPM value. This calculator assumes a constant tempo and does not include tempo automation.

How do I convert bars to seconds?

Does this support tempo changes?

No. The result assumes one constant BPM. Split an arrangement into tempo sections and calculate each section separately when the tempo changes.
