Your music release timeline

A useful plan, not a distributor promise

Every distributor, label, and campaign works differently. These dates are sensible planning targets that leave room for metadata checks and content—not guaranteed processing deadlines.

Spotify currently asks artists to deliver and pitch an unreleased song at least seven days before release to choose the Release Radar song. This timeline targets fourteen days to leave breathing room.

Build backwards from the parts you actually need. A simple single might only require artwork, distribution, one strong visual, and a few posts. A larger release can use the same dates as checkpoints for press, collaborators, and ad creative.

How far ahead should I schedule a music release?

Six to eight weeks is a useful independent-release runway when you need artwork, distribution, pitching, and content. Four weeks can work for a simpler release if every asset is already close to finished.

Does music have to be released on a Friday?

No. Friday aligns with the music industry’s global release cycle, but your audience and campaign matter more than following it blindly.

When should I pitch a song to Spotify?

Spotify says to pitch at least seven days before release. This calculator uses a two-week target to give you time to correct problems before that minimum window closes.

Does this calculator submit my release?

No. It creates a planning timeline locally in your browser. You still deliver the music through your chosen distributor and pitch it through Spotify for Artists.
