Tap Tempo

Tap along with a track to find its BPM. Use the button, your space bar, or a touchscreen—the result becomes steadier with every tap.

Tap at least four times for a stable reading. A pause longer than 2.5 seconds starts a new measurement.

How to get an accurate tempo

Start tapping on the main pulse of the music—usually the kick or snare. Keep going for at least four beats. The counter averages the most recent intervals, so a small early timing mistake matters less as you continue.

If the result looks twice as fast or half as fast as expected, check the half-time and double-time values. A beat at 70 BPM can often be felt as 140 BPM, especially in drum & bass, trap, and garage.

What is tap tempo?

Tap tempo estimates BPM from the time between repeated clicks, key presses, or screen taps. It is useful when a song has no reliable tempo metadata.

How many times should I tap?

Four to eight steady taps usually gives a useful result. Keep tapping longer if the performance drifts or the rhythm is syncopated.

Why does the BPM jump at first?

One slightly early or late tap has a large effect when there are only two intervals. The rolling average stabilizes as more taps are added.

Can this tap tempo tool hear my audio?

No. It does not use your microphone or read an audio file. It only measures when you tap, so all processing remains local.
